Email invites, what is consent to email?

At HealthUnlocked, we provide partners with tools to grow and engage their communities. Our email invite feature allows you to upload and send invitations to people from your mailing lists. When uploading email addresses and ticking the box "I confirm that appropriate consent has been obtained to contact the individuals on this list." you are confirming you have obtained appropriate consent.

What does "appropriate consent" mean?

Proper permission means:

  • The person subscribed to communications from your organization or brand.
  • When they see your community details in the invite, they recognise it
  • The invite relates to the brand, topic, or health condition they originally signed up for.

What counts as appropriate consent?

  • The individual subscribed to your newsletter or similar to receive news about your organization.
  • They signed up for your services and agreed to receive related updates.
  • They filled out a form that included a clear invitation to receive organization communication.

What does not count as consent?

  • Emails scraped from websites or social media.
  • Contact lists purchased from third parties.
  • Individuals who have not explicitly agreed to receive emails from you.

Why consent matters

  • Legal compliance: Privacy laws like GDPR, CAN-SPAM, and PECR require explicit consent.
  • Trust: Respecting consent builds stronger community engagement.
  • Platform integrity: Keeps deliverability high and protects both your organization and HealthUnlocked reputation.

By ticking the box, you confirm:

  • Everyone on your list has given consent.
  • You accept responsibility for compliance.
  • Misuse may lead to suspension of email privileges or platform access.
